In early January, we were back in our apartment in Sofia for a two-day youth gathering. In late January/early February we were at a four-day youth gathering in a conference facility on the outskirts of Sofia. On March 21, we celebrated Mina’s birthday at home with her friends, and at the end of the month Gregory performed on the piano in a school concert with his friend David.

In late March and early April we were on a 9-day Bahá’í pilgrimage to the holy places at the Bahá’í World Center in Israel.

In April, Emi was at a Bahá’í gathering in Skopje, and at the end of the month we were at the National Bahá’í Convention at the Bahá’í Center in Sofia. In early May there was another youth gathering in Sofia. We enjoyed walks in the Vitosha national park and the kids went go-karting with friends. The roses in Baba’s garden in Krupnik were especially beautiful. Emi’s cousin Milen graduated from high school, Joyce performed in the end-year show of her school, which was celebrating its 15th year, and our kids’ youth group organized a charity concert in the Russian Cultural Center.

In June-July, we visited Ian and his family in Chicago, celebrating Greg’s birthday there, visiting Greg’s brother Roger at the Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette, seeing sights in Chicago, and going for a memorable cruise up the river and on Lake Michigan on the fourth of July.

We then flew to Denver, rented a minivan, and took a road trip through the American West, driving through Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, and Canyon Lands and Arches National Parks in Utah, before driving up to Pebble Beach, California.

We spent almost a month in California in July and August, staying in a rental house in Pebble Beach. Greg’s brother Arthur, Emi’s cousin Mitko and his girls, and Carrie and her girls joined us at different times during our stay.

In the middle of August we were back in Bulgaria for a few days.

Then later in August we made a quick trip to Switzerland, first in the Alps and then visiting Greg’s brother Arthur at his chalet in France and his daughter Agnès in Geneva.

In September, we attended a Bahá’í study retreat in Pamporovo, Bulgaria, and then visited Vienna for tourism and to see friends. In November, Emi went to Spain to visit a cousin there, and in Sofia we celebrated the 15th birthday of a school mate of our kids.

On 1 December was had a small celebration of the twins’ birthday at home. Then a few days later they invited some of their Sofia and Blagoevgrad friends to a party/outing to the hotel at the Bodrost ski area in the mountain above Blagoevgrad. At the very end of December we travelled to Frankfurt to celebrate the New Year with Emi’s nephew Moni and his wife, stopping at the Bahá’í House of Worship in Langenhain overlooking Frankfurt. Moni took us to a popular night spot to bring in the new year.
